Retail Management students from Singapore Polytechnic had the opportunity to present “Makeover for Hougang Central” proposal

Since April, these students have worked hand in hand with Aljunied Town Council to survey more than 1,000 Hougang residents. The purpose was to monitor their shopping behavior and come out with viable proposals to revamp Hougang Central and bring in more crowds.

With the presentation held in the campus, students proposed interesting ideas from special shopping privileges; enhanced shopping directories to revised tenant mixes. The winning team’s proposal which included initiatives such as enhanced visual merchandising, shop directory, arts corner, shopping card programme and long-term plans for an alfresco café and a “river walk” concept. The students also enthusiastically posed questions to the Minister in a ministerial dialogue which took place after which. Organ donations and party politics were some of the interesting issues brought up and Minister was more then willing to oblige to their queries.
